Resume Keywords: What They Are and Why They Matter

Most mid-size and large employers use an applicant tracking system (ATS) to filter resumes before a recruiter reviews them. Keywords are how that filtering happens.
Where keywords come from
Pull them directly from the job posting — the specific software, certifications, methodologies, and skills named in the requirements section carry the most weight.
How to use them naturally
Work keywords into your experience bullet points and a skills section, in the same phrasing the posting uses. If the posting says "project management," don't only write "managed projects" — include the exact phrase too.
What to avoid
Don't stuff invisible keywords in white text or the margins — modern ATS software flags this as manipulation, and it can disqualify your application outright.
