Remote Job Interviews: What to Check on Your End Beforehand

September 26, 2026 · 1 min read

A technical hiccup can undercut an otherwise strong interview — here is a simple pre-check list.

Technical issues during a remote interview are common and largely avoidable with a few minutes of preparation beforehand.

Test the actual platform, not just your internet

Join a test call on the specific software being used (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet) ahead of time — permissions, camera access, and screen-share settings can all behave differently across platforms.

Check your framing and lighting

Face a light source rather than sitting with a window behind you, and position the camera at eye level rather than looking down at it.

Have a backup plan ready

Know your phone hotspot as a fallback, and have the interviewer's contact information on hand in case you need to quickly message about a technical delay.
